2015 European Rogaining Championship

European Rogaining Championship was on June 27-28 2015 in Novohradske mountains in the Czech republic. 440 participants (195 teams) were present; another 91 rogainers (44 teams) took part in Open 6 & 12 hour Rogaining Events. We have hosted rogainers from 16 European countries accompanied by several Australians living in Germany as well.

The terrain was very challenging, sometimes, especially during the night; it was not easy to find some check points, although all markers were correctly placed. Also weather was not ideal, fine rain several times changed to cloudburst. Map printed on water-resistant material Pretex required some additional protection, but any complaint concerning of map durability hasn’t occurred.

Invitation to IRF Meetings to be Held Friday 21st August

Rogainers,

All IRF Councillors and Observers and all other interested rogainers are invited to attend an IRF meeting to be held the day before the forthcoming World Rogaining Championships

This is not a decision making forum but rather an opportunity for rogainers and rogaining administrators from around the world to meet and discuss issues of mutual interest. Everyone is encouraged to attend

13ERC 2016 to be held in Spain

The bid from Iberogaine, the Spanish Rogaining Association, along with two clubs - Club Deportivo Navarra and Gipuzkoako Orientazio Taldea - received the best score in the vote among the IRF European councillors and observers. Hence Spain will host the 13th European Rogaining Championships in 2016.
 
The event is scheduled to take place 27-28 August 2016 in Aralar range in northwest of Navarra and southeast of Basque country with event center in Lekunberri.

Rogaine Course Setting and Vetting Workshop after WRC2015

On Monday 24 August and Tuesday 25 August 2015 a 2 day workshop will be presented at the event centre of WRC2015 in Kiilopää, Finland with a mix of theory and field practical sessions to discuss rogaine course setting/vetting processes and approaches. There will be a combination of larger group presentation/discussion and smaller groups with an experienced coach to spread ideas on course setting techniques and philosophy between different areas of the world.

Bids to host ERC2016

To the attention of European councillors and observers,
 
Four bids have been submitted to host ERC in 2016 (in the order of submission): Italy, Finland, Ukraine, Spain
 
I would like to thank all bidders. It is great to see high interest in hosting ERC.
 
Please study carefully the attached bids. Please also consult with your rogaining committees.
I will call a ranking vote on these bids on 1 December.
 
In selecting the host of the 13ERC2016 we shall follow guidelines similar to those as agreed in respect of awarding the WRC, in particular placing focus on the following key aspects:
-    Quality of the terrain to provide enjoyable, challenging and fair competition worthy of European championships;
-    Previous experience of the organizing team demonstrating the ability to ensure a high quality event.
